VEON Deploys New Industry Standard for Digital Identity Validation, Digital Platforms and Services

Mobile operator switchboard offered for authentication and authorization management

VEON intends to deploy MobileID to its 212 million customers in nine countries and offer it as a standard to mobile operators around the world to provide digital identity validation fully compliant with local data privacy laws.

Incorporating the GSMA’s Mobile Connect standard, MobileID enables safe and secure determination of customer identity for online and physical locations. For consumers, the service offers a streamlined customer experience without the need to remember passwords, universal connection to physical and online locations, and a SIM-based implementation that allows MobileID to work on any device. , including multifunction telephones.

Consumers will also benefit from auto-populating information across online channels and in physical locations, for things like credit applications, while the Permission Center module will allow customers to manage and control permissions previously granted to vendors. Services. For online retailers, sharing customer attributes and knowledge of their physical location reduces operational fraud and enables inclusion of credit scoring information. MobileID service-enabled conversion rates are up to twice as high for retailers, along with an 80% faster service registration process, while providing an easier and faster customer journey.

The deployment of MobileID follows extensive testing in Russia with VEON’s mobile operator Beeline in partnership with other Russian mobile operators. The nine-month trial rollout saw over 1.2 million monthly active users subscribe to MobileID to authenticate their digital personality with 36 leading service providers and online merchants, including AliExpress, Alfa-Bank, Alfa Insurance, Sheremetievo Airport and Raiffeisen Bank.

Following the successful conclusion of further trials in Russia, MobileID will be rolled out to all VEON mobile operators with its launch starting in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.

Operation of MobileID is managed in a secure manner with all customer data stored in Class 3 / Class 4 data centers which are operated by national telecommunications operators in accordance with local data privacy laws. Seamless integration with customer SIM cards provides an additional level of customer security and protection and customer personal data is always encrypted with the RSA Asymmetric algorithm. Additional security levels, such as PIN code validation, are supported for highly sensitive transactions. For large retailers and financial institutions, a comprehensive portfolio of software tools and APIs are available to customize MobileID and integrate it into specific applications. National and global interoperability is also ensured because MobileID integrates the global standard approved by the GSMA (Mobile Connect).
