The focus on the carbon footprint of products is increasing sharply, in line with the focus on reducing CO emissions2 emissions and carbon footprint sharing at the product level. Perstorp currently has carbon footprint values for over 80 products, which corresponds to around 85% of the volume sold. These values are updated annually, depending on the specific conditions at the production plant.
Global guideline for calculating the carbon footprint of products
As part of the joint initiative Together for Sustainability, companies from the global chemical industry have agreed on a global guideline for calculating the carbon footprint of products. Perstorp was one of many companies that evaluated and tested the new methodology in spring 2022.
“Transparently sharing this kind of information with our customers is an important part of being a sustainable solutions provider and meeting value chain needs,” says Anna Berggren, Vice President of Sustainability at Perstorp. “Product carbon footprinting is an important way to add value to our Pro-Environment products; it shows how they reduce CO2 emissions by replacing fossil raw materials with renewable or recycled alternatives, which has an effect on all downstream parties and products in the value chain.
